The Stand-By Partner (SBP) Humanitarian Affairs Officer (HAO) Induction Course was conducted in Hvergardi, Iceland from 6-9 November. The first winter-storm of the year delayed the start of the course, which reduced the training from four to two and a half days.  Despite the reduced programme, the quality of the SBP participants and the high-caliber of the facilitation team provided for an informative and engaging course. The HAO Course is, currently, the primary training programme for roster members of SBP to obtain basic skills for deployment as a HAO to an OCHA Field Office, with the next course to be conducted in the first quarter of 2018. In the interim, SBP who wish to have their staff participate in preparatory training are encouraged to nominate them for the Preparedness and Response Effectiveness Programme (PREP) ran by OCHA’s Emergency Support Branch. Information regarding the PREP course can be found at https://sites.google.com/a/dialoguing.org/humanitarian-military-dialogue/activities/prep-course.
