From 17-22 September,  the Emergency Services Branch (ESB) conducted a Preparedness and Response Effectiveness Programme (PREP) course in Berlin with the generous support of the German Federal Foreign Office and the Center for International Peace Operations (ZIF). The course was conducted by the Civil-Military Coordination Section (CMCS) with the support of the Field Coordination Support Section (FCSS) and OCHA Jordan.

From 24-29 September, ESB conducted another PREP course in Johannesburg, that was conducted by CMCS with the support of FCSS and OCHA ROSEA. The PREP Course in Johannesburg was the first of its kind taking place on the African continent and proved a great success, with 23 participants of 16 nationalities from NGOs, UN Agencies, Resident Coordinator Offices, the military, regional organisations such as the African Union and academia, all working in or in relation to Africa.
