OCHA’s Field Coordination Support Section ensures the members of the United Nations Disaster Assessment and Coordination (UNDAC) system are response-ready at all times. This includes providing them with mandatory refresher courses to guarantee they are kept abreast with the latest developments in humanitarian response and the UNDAC methodology.
The second re-designed UNDAC Refresher Course was held from 20 to 25 August in Cheonan, Republic of Korea. The course, hosted by the National Disaster Response Agency of Korea, brought together nearly 50 members of the UNDAC system.
The participants hit the ground running with a simulation exercise and were immersed in a disaster setting for the first three days. This was followed by two days of roundtable and debriefing. In spite for the heavy rain and flooding the OSOCCs, the UNDAC teams and support partners from Télécoms Sans Frontières and MapAction successfully coped with the elements and some 150 injects. Well done!
