On 28-29 November the key environmental emergency response partners working with UNEP and OCHA gathered in Geneva to develop practical ways of further strengthening the delivery of international assistance to countries affected by environmental disasters.  During the 1.5-day workshop, the participants identified several activities aimed at deploying well-coordinated and interoperable response for environmental disasters by: 1) sequencing of tools and expertise; 2) leveraging additional networks; 3) engaging local actors in response; 4) setting administrative rules for deployment and 5) strengthening institutional and individual preparedness.  As follow up to the workshop, the Joint UNEP/OCHA Environment Unit will update its Standard Operating Procedures on response, develop guidance for experts and organize twice-annual webinars for experts to exchange information on past missions.
