After the passage of Tropical Cyclone Winston, the most powerful cyclone ever to strike Fiji last February 2016, an UNDAC team was immediately deployed to provide strong support to the National Disaster Management Office and the UN country team. The team, supported by two members from MapAction, worked alongside OCHA Fiji colleagues to strengthen the Information Management capacity of the response, as well as the civil-military coordination among responders. Thanks to rapid assessments conducted across the different affected areas, the team was able to better frame the operational understanding of the response.
