UNOCHA’s Emergency Services Branch organised the UNDAC Induction course in Singapore from 8 to 20 May. This event was kindly hosted by the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF). The 32 participants from 14 Member States, 2 regional and 6 international and UN organisations and facilitators from all over the world were actively learning and sharing knowledge and experience. The participants, experienced humanitarians and disaster managers from international organisations and national emergency management organisations, learned the basic UNDAC methodology for establishing and supporting coordination following sudden on-set emergencies through group works and discussions around a flooding scenario. In the second week, following practical training and in-depth topic discussions, participant teams embarked on a 48-hour simulation exercise of an earthquake scenario in the fictive country of Klanndestan.
