2015 was a year of great achievements. We had launched the INSARAG Guidelines 2015, and completed the First Responder Training package and the revised Earthquake Response Exercise Package. We have completed ten INSARAG External Classifications and Reclassifications, which brings us to a total of 45 classified teams globally. The strength of our network was clearly demonstrated in the contribution of the classified teams during the Nepal earthquake crisis.

The second Global INSARAG Meeting was held in Abu Dhabi and, together with the Regional Meetings and the Team Leaders’ Meetings, it was largest event held in INSARAG’s 25 year history. The outcome of this successful global collaboration is the Abu Dhabi Declaration, which reaffirmed INSARAG’s commitment to the United Nations General Assembly resolution 57/150 of 2002 on ‘Strengthening the effectiveness and coordination of international urban search and rescue assistance’ from 2015 to 2020.

2016 will undoubtedly bring new challenges and present opportunities for INSARAG to reflect on its strategic directions moving forward. The INSARAG Secretariat looks forward to continuing its support and strong relationship with the network as we head into the new year. We will you all a merry Christmas and a happy new year.
